New doll Ugg boots-a beach accessory????

I love the Ugg boots for dolls of today, but why in the world are they being released as a BEACH ACCESSORY? I have a pair and they keep your feet really warm. Those things are for the winter. I can't imagine wearing those heavy warm boots in the sand!! [img]graemlins/island.gif[/img]

I don't know about the East coast, but out West, it is very trendy to wear boots with skirts. I see girls doing it ALL the time! Esp in California, which I visit atleast twice a year. I always see beach bunnies wearing them.

You see, it's hot here so the only way we can wear boots is with skirts and shorts! Terrible how deprived we are!

In LA, it is very popular to wear Uggs with skirts. I never cared for Uggs, my sister has a pair though and it makes sense for her since she lives in Chicago!

Girls wear those boots and mini-skirts here in Denmark as well, although it makes sense here, due to the wheater, I'm not a fan!
As to why they are released as a beach-accessory, I once read that they where invented for surfers to keep warm when not in the water, then it makes sense, since real surfers o it all year round, right?
Perhaps someone, who actually knows something about surfing, can confirm this?

Interesting...it didn't make sense to me when I saw it. In Michigan, boots are for tromping around in the snow.

I thought it was just that AG missed the boat on the popularity of the shoes for the winter season so they're just trying to make up for it now. [img]tongue.gif[/img] They know we still have months of winter left where girls will want them for their dolls.

Uggs is an Australian company, and there they were it in any climate condition. My first thought was also, why wear them on the beach or in a hot country, but considering everything I learned about wool while working for the Woolmark, makes sense.

Wool creates a 'climate' which is comfortable for warm and cold weather - keeps you warm when it's cold and cool when hot. It takes-up up to 45% of it's own weight in humidity so you don't feel sweaty/wet.

I would think they're still better suited - even in warmer climates - than wearing 'plastic' boots.

Someone once told me that Uggs were developed in Australia for the surfers to wear when they get out of the water. First of all suade is no where near water proof for tromping around in the snow and second Uggs have no tread what so ever, if you wore a pair during a snow storm in Kansas you would fall on your butt if you stood on a patch of ice.

Personally I think Uggs are just that uguly. The serve little purpose other than a fashion statement. And if your feet are cold in the winter wear wool socks and a decent pair of snow boots.
